London XXII

Newcastle I

I am super happy, I now own the Canon EF-S 10-22 mm f/3.5-4.5. I have wanted this lens for such a long time; having always felt that the kit 18-55 lens was never wide enough for my style. So here is my first shared shot with the wide angle. This is the 'Angel of the North' sculpture found on the outskirts of Newcastle (next to the A1). The sculpture is 20 metres tall and has a 'wingspan' of 54 metres. I really wasn't standing far away from the sculpture and easily got it to fit in the shot. The slight distortion in the wings will be due to being slightly off centre. A three exposure HDR image processed using Photomatix and Adobe Lightroom.

Brighton V

A shot from a few years back now (maybe in 2009/2010). This is the famous Brighton Pavilion. A three image/three exposure (nine shots) HDR image captured using a Canon EOS 500D and 18-55 mm kit lens. Processed using a plethora of software: Photomatix/Hugin/Adobe Lightroom/GIMP.

Peak District XIII

An alternative view of a photo uploaded some time ago. A highland cow seen not too far from Curbar Edge in the Peak District. I walked past this guy in fading light, he seemed very inquisitive and came within a metre before wandering off. A three exposure HDR image processed using Photomatix and Adobe Lightroom.

Nottingham XLV

Some of the many windows found on the John Player Warehouse in Lenton, Nottingham. I've tried to correct the perspective on this one, mainly because I couldn't get a head on shot due to fences and buildings being in the way. A three exposure HDR image captured using a Canon EOS 500D and an 18-55 mm EF-S kit lens. Processed using Photomatix and Adobe Lightroom.

Treyarnon Bay I

Brighton IV

Colourful fish found at the Sea Life Centre in Brighton, England. A single exposure captured with a Canon EOS 500D with the kit 18-55 lens. Processed using Adobe Lightroom and GIMP.

Padstow II

The sun setting over the unusually named Booby's Bay, a beach found near Padstow in Cornwall. This shot was taken on the walk back to the camp site after a long day at another beach.

A HDR panoramic shot taken with my point and shoot, a Panaonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 (I was too worried about sand to take my DSLR to the beach that day). Three lots of three different exposure images were stitched and exported to an EXR file using Hugin. The resulting file was tonemapped and adjusted using Photomatix. The final editing was performed using Adobe Lightroom and GIMP.

Padstow I

Stratford upon Avon I

The Israeli Lamp, a tribute to Shakespeare by sculptor Frank Meisler in 1990. The lamp post is one of many donated by nations around the world and found on the streets of Stratford upon Avon. On the left is the character 'Bottom' from A Midsummer Night's Dream. On the right is 'Tevye' from Fiddler on the Roof, a story by the Yiddish writer Shalom Aleichem.

Bexhill I

Taken and processed only a few minutes ago, this is the cool evening sunset over Beeston, Nottinghamshire. A three exposure HDR image processed using Photomatix and Adobe Lightroom.

I'm reasonably pleased with the processing on this, despite the overcast and gloomy weather. A three exposure HDR image processed using Photomatix and adjusted using Adobe Lightroom.

Lake District VI

Having climbed (and descended) Catbells, in the Lake District, I stopped and had a spot of lunch near to this jetty on Derwent Water. A three exposure HDR image processed using Photomatix, Adobe Lightroom and GIMP.

Nottingham XLI

A photo taken earlier in the year, when much of the UK was covered in snow. This was the scene that greeted me, not far from the lake found in the campus of Nottingham University, as the sun was setting. A three exposure HDR image processed using Photomatix, Lightroom and GIMP.

Oxford I

The main hall of the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, England. The museum is a collection of archaeological and anthropological items from Oxford University and is free to visit.

This is a three image panorama consisting of three lots of three exposure HDR images (nine images in total). Raw HDR images were processed using Photomatix and the resulting EXR files stitched with Hugin. I chose a fish eye projection as that was the least harsh on cropping. Final touch up was performed using Adobe Lightroom. Overall I'm very pleased with the clarity of this image, considering the low lighting conditions within the museum and using the kit lens. Auto bracketed images were captured at a shutter speed of 1/8, 1/13 and 1/20 second, all handheld.

Stamford XXI

Deer in front of Burghley House found close to Stamford in Lincolnshire, England. The house and rooms within it have been used to film scenes for Pride & Prejudice, The Da Vinci Code, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, plus others. A three exposure HDR image processed using Photomatix and Adobe Lightroom, with final touch up being performed in GIMP.

Nottingham XL

The country house (Wollaton Hall) that was used as Wayne Manor in the 'Batman: The Dark Knight Rises' film. A three exposure HDR image processed using Photomatix. Final touch up being performed using Adobe Lightroom and GIMP.

Peak District XII

The sun setting over fields in the Peak District. This is a view not far from the start of White Edge. A three exposure HDR image processed using Photomatix and adjusted in Lightroom.
